OVERVIEW
For the past three years, I’ve had the honor of designing the annual poster series for the Bar W Rodeo—a multi-location series of rodeos that span across Canton, Alpharetta, Clayton, and Hayesville. Each year presents a new creative challenge: to design fresh, engaging posters that not only grab attention as people pass by on the street, but also capture the rugged energy and tradition of the rodeo.
The vision behind the posters has always been clear—bring to life the charm of vintage rodeo posters with a modern twist. The process begins with in-depth research of authentic vintage rodeo advertisements, followed by a round of hand-drawn sketches inspired by historical design styles. From there, the designs evolve into bold, visually compelling posters that incorporate real photos from past Bar W Rodeos—blending authenticity with artistic storytelling.
With each location hosting its own event, the designs are tailored to feel cohesive as a series while still allowing for unique variations that reflect the spirit of each town. The result is a set of posters that feel both nostalgic and fresh—rooted in tradition yet crafted to connect with a modern audience.
This ongoing collaboration continues to be a highlight, offering the chance to celebrate the legacy of rodeo through intentional design that commands attention and brings communities together.
